After recently reading Ms. Cuza's Passion Fruit, I was delighted to buy and then tear through Game of Chance. The colorful characters are carefully developed, the well crafted plot involving corporate machinations keeps you reading on and on, and once again, the wonderful descriptive style readily conjures up Brazil and LA. One can easily identify with Calypso as she struggles to deal with a world that comes tumbling down around her. A must read!
I loved this book. It was exciting trying to guess whether four business partners would succeed in their illegal adventure and whether or not their wives would discover what they were up to. Ms.Cuza has an easy to read style that captures the flavor of both Brazil and L.A. as she shows how easily wrong decisions can have disastrous consequences. The characters are well drawn, particularly Calypso, the protagonist, whose world is suddenly filled with unexpected problems that she alone must solve. This is a terrific book that should not be miss.
Sandra Cuza has again captured the essence of living in Brazil. That she was able to juggle eight characters--count them, four couples--is masterful. Each person is carefully drawn as an individual. Some we like, a couple we even trust, and others like Maybelline we just watch for the fun of it! The plot twists engage every layer of emotion while remaining true to life in Brazil, both city and jungle. This is a novel you won't forget.
I started reading this book slowly because of a busy work schedule but then couldn't put it down! I even took to work to read while waiting for my next meeting. I became frustrated, excited, and proud of some of characters while celebrating the fate of others. I highly recommend this book!
